EROTEC —- teledildonics: sex + technology

For four days and nights the centre of Enschede will be transformed into an audiovisual playground with media art, installations, exhibitions, workshops, robotics, performances, lectures, parties and the world championship Powertool Racing. This jubilee edition’s theme is the relation between sex and technology: EROTEC
During GOGBOT international top-of-the-bill art and Dutch talent can be seen at the Oude Markt, in the Grote Kerk, TETEM art space and Atak – mostly free of charge. GOGBOT is a sexy cyberpunk fair, a unique festival full of surprises – an audiovisual adventure. In 2011 the festival was crowned most innovative event in the Netherlands. Wanna shock your senses? The 250 participants include: Erwin Olaf, Hester Scheurwater, Julika Rudelius, Lernert en Sander, Rachel de Boer, Rein Vollenga, Refunc, Venetian Snares, Guerilla Speakerz, Bong-ra, Gomes, Cairo Liberation Front, Acid P303ER, Neverporn, Mental Plastic Body Filler, Monodeer, Maask, Silicat… With a special opening by sex idealist Marije Janssen: Porna op de church tower.
EROTEC – sex and technology
Each year GOGBOT investigates current social affairs and anticipates them in its festival themes. Past themes were eg. atompunk, transhumanism, singularity, datapanic, power of googlization en internetmemes – subjects highlighting the intensifying relationship between technology, graphic arts and popular culture from various angles.
In the 10th edition, GOGBOT finally bares all. EROTEC is this year’s theme, deeply and titillatingly exploring the relation between sexuality and technology. The GOGBOT 2013 participants examine the relationship between technology and the growing desire for instant physical satisfaction and more specifically the role of erotica, sensuality and sexuality in our (electronic) culture. Sex is the #1 digital content on the internet. Shifting taboos and gender rolls, the emergence of new relationships, new social networks and subcultures, medical and aesthetic manipulation of the human body! Commercial forces, media influence – popular culture is continuously changing and evolving. What were things like yesterday? What today? And how will we cope with how the will be in the (near) future? GOGBOT invites artists, thinkers, designers, fashion designers, scientists and techn! icians to present their results, imaginations, reflections and interpretations in the various programs around four themes:

2 Sehnsucht and consumption
3 Transhumanism 2.0: the human body & enhancements
4 Psychological disorders and insanity
Some highlights of our program:
REFUNC – fetish pounding black blob
Den Haag collective Refunc uses recycles and has built architectural processes at eg. Oerol 2013, Manifesta 2012, Todaysart and Lowlads. In Enschede Refunc is building a large black phallus, a fetish ‘blob’ in which the visitor can surrender himself to an erogenous total experience.
REIN VOLLENGA
This young Dutch designer based in Berlin is rapidly gaining notoriety. He designed accessories and a CD cover for Lady Gaga, and will present an exhibition of his newest erogenous sculptures and wearables in the Grote Kerk.
HESTER SCHEURWATER
Scheurwater has frequently been blocked and banned from Facebook for her daily uploads of erotic self-portraits. An installation of hers will be on display at GOGBOT.
JULIKA RUDELIUS
The Highest Point: a video piece with women explaining their orgasms and the best way to achieve them.
BEAUTIFULL AGONY
A website that perfectly suits these confusing times. It is porn, yet it isn’t. A high-brow art project but also as common as possible. Idealistic, but commercial. Beautifulagony.com is a celebration of la petite mort. The little death. The orgasm.
GLOBAL REZ NOIZE
The tower chamber of the Grote Kerk will be transformed into an audiovisual 3D environment where the most extreme sex avatars and bots in Second Life will give a 3D social media performance. A true “Avatar Bot Orgy” performed by a web art collective from the Netherlands, USA, Australia and Colombia. They draw inspiration from the Japanese FutanariComix, European latex-rubber-kitsch fetish and from science fiction characters from modern pop culture.
POWERTOOL RACE
On Saturday afternoon September 7th a 20 meter long cage will be set up at the foot of the church for the world championship Powertool Race. After the huge success of 2012 everyone can participate with their own powertool. Register and remember the theme: teledildonics!
YOUNGBLOOD AWARD 2013
Since 2005 GOGBOT has presented the best graduates of the Dutch art academies in Enschede. Once again this year a selection of exhibitions will be shown in the TETEM art space and on the Oude Markt. A film program has also been compiled in cooperation with TENT Rotterdam with the best videos and short films.
Lectures and Network events
During the opening on Thursday, GOGBOT will present a lecture by sex idealist Marije Janssen on the main stage about the influence of internet on pornography, with porna on the church tower. On Saturday evening philosopher Mark Coeckelbergh (University of Twente) will discuss current events surrounding drones and robotics. Also visit the GOGBOT network event on Friday in TETEM art space in the Concordia theatre, aimed especially at starters and professionals in the creative industry.
GOGBOT Electronic Music Program:
In 10 years GOGBOT has grown into a mature, innovative music festival with her electronic music program. All acts on the Oude Markt are free of charge. Venetian Snares, the Canadian breakcore-legend is coming to Enschede for their only show in the Netherlands in 2013. German lofi performers LesTrucs will conquer the Oude Markt with their rucksacks. Silicat is a French audiovisual live act that will make you go quiet in amazement, even at GOGBOT! Dutch headliners are also present, with bass sensation Guerilla Speakerz and dubstep grand master Gomes. And many, many more musicians as well as these highlights.

GOGBOT is much more as well. Discover robotics and installations around the Grote Kerk, or enter it for film and video installations and the EROTEC installations by the Creative Technology department of the University of Twente.
